I am intellectually curious and have a deep love of learning. In high school I graduated with the IB diploma and went on to study Cultural Anthropology at New College of Florida. While attending undergrad, I discovered the importance of traveling and exploring other cultures. I particularly fell in love with South America and wrote my thesis on the indigenous people of the Ecuadorian Amazon. After graduating, I continued to make traveling to other countries my top priority. Some of my favorite places I’ve visited include Peru, Spain, and Thailand. When I turned 30, I decided it was time to prioritize a meaningful career and turned my attention to teaching.
Teaching Background
I have always loved the learning process and working with children, which naturally led me to pursue a career in education. I have worked in the education field since 2012, seven years of which include working in a public-school setting. For the first four years I was a classroom instructor at a Montessori charter school and focused primarily on teaching reading and language arts. By the end of my 4th year, I had found my passion: helping struggling readers learn how to read, write, and comprehend text. I chose to become an ESE (Exceptional Student Education) teacher and worked with a variety of different students who all had diverse needs and required specialized instruction in order to be successful in the classroom.
IN 2020, I left the public school system and opened my own reading center in my hometown of Pensacola, Florida. The response has been overwhelming, as there are so many children that have fallen behind for one reason or another. A lot of the children I currently work with have been with me for several years. Some are in public or private schools, while others are being homeschooled. I focus on many areas, including reading comprehension, phonics instruction, middle school math, and assisting parents in creating and maintaining a viable homeschool curriculum.
I have been a Florida certified teacher since 2011.
My teaching background is in the Montessori Method of Education, with extensive training in the Montessori method, materials, and philosophy as it relates to education.
I graduated from the University of South Florida in 2014 with a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education.
In 2017, I became a certified Phono-Graphix reading practitioner, and in August of 2023, I graduated from the University of Florida with a Master's level Dyslexia Certificate in Assessment and Intervention.
In May of 2024, I became an International Dyslexia Association (IDA) certified Dyslexia Interventionist.
